My Creative Process
Creativity strikes me at different times. I’ll be driving, hear a beautiful electronic song and find myself singing a tune along to it. I’ll take my phone out and record a verse, then revisit it later.
I’ll be singing in the shower and realize a verse I’ve sung is quite catchy, go grab my phone, and get it recorded before it escapes me.
Some days I journal how I’m feeling, and then the words turn into song lyrics.
The key for me is to let myself explore sounds and words, revisiting parts I’ve started and growing them into a song.
Sometimes, I’ll happen upon someone’s instrumental composition and find it a great match for lyrics I’ve already written. I reach to the composer to collaborate. I always have fun with it.
You never know where a simple phrase/tune can lead to. Keep creating!
My sOUND
I would describe my sound as trip hop meets classical. My vocals are operatic and sensual, paired well to electronic music (think Massive Attack or Portishead), but versatile and well suited to soundtracks. I have a background with Broadway musicals as well, and I’ve been considering exploring the horror realm, playing with a vocal styling similar to Diamanda Galas.
WHO I LIKE TO WORK WITH
My collaborators are independent musicians who produce out of their bedrooms. No egos, no complications, just creators. We share any profits from our albums evenly, and our relationships are respectful, playful and supportive.
